The Philadelphia Phillies very well could win the World Series this season.
Once the 2024 season ends, though, the Phillies are expected to be active in free agency no matter what happens. The closer position will be one for the Phillies to take a look at this winter with Carlos Estévez heading to free agency.
There's always a chance that the Phillies could look to bring Estévez back, but there also is a chance that Philadelphia could look elsewhere. If the Phillies do look to bring in an external player, one option that was floated is Boston Red Sox All-Star Kenley Jansen by Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer.
"It was a good year for the Phillies bullpen, which ultimately ranked sixth in fWAR," Rymer said. "But with Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez slated for free agency, it'll take some effort to keep the good times lasting into 2025...
"Any number of pending free agents could upgrade his spot, including Kirby Yates, Kenley Jansen or Blake Treinen. The catch is that they also figure to be more expensive, but it would be in character if the Phillies opted to spare no expense."
Jansen spent the last two years with the Red Sox and had a 3.44 ERA across 105 outings. He has 447 career saves and has been one of the best closers in baseball history. Jansen will be available this winter and is projected to get a deal worth $72 million over four years.
Philadelphia will have money to spend, and Jansen could be a very intriguing target.
