The Philadelphia Phillies don't have many holes on the roster but likely will be busy around the trade deadline.

Philadelphia currently has the best record in the National League at 45-20 but could use some help in the outfield. It's uncertain exactly what the club will do as the deadline is just under two months away, but they reportedly are "keeping an eye" on Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"The Philadelphia Phillies are keeping an eye on Diamondbacks left-handed hitting outfielder Jake McCarthy if the D-backs decide to make him available at the trade deadline," Nightengale said.

McCarthy is a four-year big league veteran who certainly could help Philadelphia if he becomes available. So far this season he has clubbed three home runs, driven in 15 runs, stolen nine bases, and slashed .282/.368/.401 in 57 games played.

He finished fourth in the National League Rookie of the Year award voting in 2022 and is under team control until 2029. A trade may cost a lot prospect-wise, but the Phillies should be considering all options down the stretch and McCarthy does make sense.

The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline will come and pass on July 30th and the Phillies certainly will be busy. Philadelphia has a chance to do something special this season but adding some more outfield depth this summer should be considered a necessity. Don't be surprised if speculation picks up even more about a deal involving McCarthy over the next few months.
