The Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers have gone back and forth all season with the best record in Major League Baseball. As it stands, the Dodgers have a half-game lead for home-field advantage.
According to Las Vegas, the Dodgers are the odds-on-favorites to win the World Series at +320. But not everyone is a believer.
ESPN MLB Insider Jeff Passan joined the Pat McAfee Show Wednesday and dropped a bomb that will leave Dodgers fans irked.
"I think the best team in baseball is the Philadelphia Phillies," Passan said.
"You look at that roster, and they have got stars. It's Bryce Harper, it's Trea Turner, it's Kyle Schwarber, it's J.T. Realmuto, and Alec Bohm has taken a step forward -- Zack Wheeler at the front of the rotation with Aaron Nola and Cristopher Sanchez."
Passan's perspective is accurate. Philadelphia is loaded with talent and getting healthier.
The Phillies activated outfielder Austin Hays on Tuesday, leaving the Phillies with a complete roster intact.
However, it is not like the Dodgers are chopped liver. They have their fair share of stars themselves.
A lineup with Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández, and Max Muncy is nothing to scoff at. But maybe the differentiating factor is pitching.
The Dodgers' rotation has been crushed by injury and off-field incidents. They are currently left with Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Jack Flaherty as their only reliable starters. Not to mention, the bullpen has had a tumultuous season at best.
Nevertheless, the Dodgers are likely to win nearly 100 games yet again and will be a threat to the Phillies and everyone else come October.
