The Philadelphia Phillies are narrowing down their trade targets and focusing on what's most important as July 30 approaches.
Reportedly, acquiring a center fielder is far and away the top priority for Philadelphia's president Dave Dombrowski.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden appeared on MLB Network Radio on Sunday and communicated that the Phillies have reduced their list of targets at center field to three players.
"(The Phillies) are trying to fix center field, and they've made it the priority," Bowden said. "They feel like they have enough starting pitching, and they have enough bullpen ... but they really want to figure out center field ... Luis Robert of the (Chicago) White Sox, Jazz Chisholm of the Miami Marlins, and Cody Bellinger of the (Chicago) Cubs have been their top priority."
Bowden essentially guaranteed that Philadelphia will land one of Robert, Chisholm, or Bellinger, based on his assessment of Dombrowski as a Hall of Fame executive.
"Knowing Dave Dombrowski ... who will someday be a Hall of Famer ... when he targets something, he'll get it. And when he targets it, it's not going to be a risk. It's going to be the best. When he targets the best, he gets the best. So Dave's going to get one of those three guys."
Bowden also pointed out that Philadelphia will be paying a steep price to acquire their new center fielder, claiming that the Phillies will be forced to include top prospect Aidan Miller in the deal along with one of their top pitching prospects.
Will such a haul be worth it for Dombrowski and Philadelphia? When a World Series is within an arm's reach, everything is on the table.
