It was safe to expect a pitchers' duel when Zack Greinke and Jacob deGrom got together at Citi Field on Sunday, but who had deGrom as the man to break up Greinke's scoreless streak?

The Mets pitcher did just that with a fielder's-choice grounder to first base in the third inning, driving home Kirk Nieuwenhuis to halt Greinke's run at 45 2/3 innings. Adrian Gonzalez threw home to try to cut down the runner and keep the streak alive, but couldn't get the out.

Greinke's scoreless run was the fourth-longest in MLB history, and he was only four outs away from matching Bob Gibson's mark of 47 scoreless innings from his magical 1968 season.

The last run allowed by Greinke prior to Sunday came on a solo home run by San Diego's Justin Upton in the eighth inning of a 2-1 Padres win over the Dodgers on June 13.
