The New York Yankees reportedly honing in on a potential blockbuster trade for Detroit Tigers starter Jack Flaherty.
Looking to add a bit more juice to the starting rotation, the Yankees seem to be going hard after Flaherty ahead of Tuesday's deadline.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Yankees are in"extensive talks" to make a deal for the Tigers ace.
Flaherty is in the middle of a bounce-back season, and he would be an intriguing rental for the Yankees to add.
The 28-year-old is 7-5 in 18 starts with a 2.95 ERA, 133 strikeouts, 10 walks and a 0.956 WHIP across 16.2 innings.
His 33.2% whiff rate (94th percentile), 32% strikeout rate (93rd percentile) and 4.6% walk rate (94th percentile) are all elite marks.
Flaherty works mostly off a three-pitch mix that includes a four-seam fastball, slider and curveball. He seldom works in his changeup and sinker.
Flaherty has reached 100 innings pitched in just two of his last six seasons so there certainly are some concerns about longevity.
