The Yankees entered the 2023 season as the defending AL East champions after winning 99 games the previous year. The team with 27 World Series titles ended up with an 82–80 record last season, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Now, the Yankees look to regroup and return to form in 2024.
Manager Aaron Boone enters his seventh year as the Yankees’ skipper. While the team has made the playoffs almost every year he has been in the dugout, the Yankees have only made it to the ALCS twice. Boone’s contract expires at the end of the season, with a club option for 2025. Favored by GM Brian Cashman and owner Hal Steinbrenner, is there pressure for him to have a successful season or lose his position?
“I don’t know that I look at it like that. I’m here to try and win a World Series. All my energy and all my focus is trying to play my part in helping us be the best possible team we can be, and our goal is to be a world champion. So I don’t know if I look at it as this has to happen for me to save this,” Boone told NJ.com.
The 2024 offseason could help underscore Boone’s relaxed answer. A rare trade with the Red Sox got the Yankees Alex Verdugo. Then, the team signed passionate pitcher Marcus Stroman. The Yankees impressed fans by trading for the dynamic Juan Soto. While with the team for one season, the hope is Soto signs a long-term deal with the Yankees.
Soto joins a team going through a bit of a youth movement. Oswaldo Cabrera and Anthony Volpe look to have breakout seasons, along with Gleyber Torres. Meanwhile, captain Aaron Judge is ready to lead the team to victory while hitting mammoth home runs.
With some positives come some negatives, with a few silver linings. Prized pitcher and ace Gerrit Cole is dealing with nerve inflammation and edema in his pitching elbow and will be out of action for a few weeks to start the season. Luis Gil will take his spot in the rotation. DJ LeMahieu will be out of action due to a foot injury, but the Yankees responded by trading for utility man Jon Berti just before Opening Day.
Can the Yankees return to the World Series for the first time since 2009? Here's a complete guide to watching the Yankees this season without cable:
How to watch Yankees games without cable
For those without cable, there are several options to stream Yankees games this year:
If you're in-market, Fubo carries YES, the Yankees' RSN, but blackout restrictions apply. If you are within the market for YES, you can watch Yankees baseball via Fubo. Those out of market will not be able to watch Yankees games on the streaming service, since Fubo will not carry the out-of-market RSN.

If you live outside the Yankees' TV market, you can watch games via MLB.tv. For $149.99 for the season or $29.99 per month, you can catch every game from every team outside your local market. You can also pick a single-team option for $129.99 for the season. Again, this is only if you are outside the Yankees' TV market: If you are inside the Yankees' market, games will be blacked out. Games will also be blacked out if you live outside the Yankees' market, but inside the market of teams the Yankees are visiting.
Fubo is also carrying MLB.tv, for $29.99 per month on top of the Fubo subscription.

For nationally televised games, there are a few options, with some exceptions: Fubo, SlingTV, and DirecTV Stream all carry ESPN, MLB Network and FS1. YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV carry ESPN and FS1, but they do not carry MLB Network in 2024.
You can check if games are blacked out in your area using MLB's blackout tool.
