The New York Yankees are signing former Toronto Blue Jays reliever Tim Mayza to a minor-league deal.
Mayza was designated for assignment on June 29. After he cleared waivers, the Blue Jays released him. We discussed earlier how Mayza might be a potential reclamation project for the Yankees.
The news was first reported by Brenden Kuty and Katie Woo of The Athletic.

It's no secret that Mayza has struggled in 2024. The 32-year-old recorded an 8.03 ERA with 16 strikeouts and a 1.95 WHIP in 24.2 innings pitched this season.
He had a .326 expected batting average and a 13.2% strikeout rate, both of which were career lows.
However, he's coming off a spectacular 2023 season that included a 1.52 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 53.1 innings.
The Yankees have gotten some quality innings out of Tim Hill, who has a 2.61 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in 10.1 innings over his last seven games.
Meanwhile, Caleb Ferguson continues to struggle to the tine of a 5.46 ERA in 28 innings this season.
It will be interesting to see if Mayza eventually gets called up to the active roster, but this could be a reclamation project to keep an eye on.
