What the New York Yankees do at the trade deadline is a mystery but one MLB analyst proposed a shocking deal.
In a mock trade proposed by John Coppolella of Yahoo Sports, the Yankees shockingly parted ways with their top overall prospect in exchange for the three biggest trade pieces on the Miami Marlins roster.
The Yankees would send Jasson Dominguez and "two non top-20 prospects" to the Marlins for Jazz Chisholm, Tanner Scott and Josh Bell in this hypothetical trade scenario.
It's going to take a lot for the Yankees to part ways with Dominguez, and it's probably not enough in this deal. They reportedly have "no desire" to trade Dominguez at the deadline.
The Yankees reportedly have interest in Chisholm, especially with his latest move to second base ahead of the deadline. Scott is a target the Yankees should have on their radar at the deadline, and it remains to be seen how they would feel about Bell.
Bell has a 77 OPS+ and probably wouldn't be an upgrade offensively over rookie Ben Rice.
Sending Dominguez, who is viewed as a future piece of the outfield, in a deal for a rental relief arm and a former All-Star who has been a league-average hitter over the last two seasons is questionable.
The Yankees need to make a move at the deadline and some form of a deal that includes Chisholm and Scott should be considered. But parting ways with Dominguez in this type of deal likely wouldn't be worth it.
The speculation and trade proposals will end in just over a week with the July 30 deadline approaching, but it's hard to imagine the Yankees being open to this kind of deal.
