Yankees reliever Sergio Santos will have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, YES Network reports.

Santos, 31, signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees on June 9 but after just two big-league games in pinstripes, he was placed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation.

The news was devastating for the journeyman, according to manager Joe Girardi.

Santos is 7–12 in his career with a 3.98 ERA over 194 relief appearances with the White Sox, Blue Jays, Dodgers and Yankees. He pitched three innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in his two appearances with the Yankees.
