As the MLB trade deadline quickly approaches, Mike Francesa believes he has the perfect deal for the New York Yankees and New York Mets.
Though the crosstown rivals made a deal earlier this season that resulted in the Yankees trading catcher Luis Torrens for cash, these two teams don't make trades very often.
But Francesa, the former WFAN radio host, said on his podcast that believes the Yankees should look into making a deal to bring Jeff McNeil to the Bronx.
"To me, a perfect, perfect addition for the Yankees is [Jeff] McNeil.” Francesa said via The Post.
Francesa also noted the Yankees would send a high minor league arm in exchange for McNeil.
“The Yankees have a million guys in the high minors who could go into the Mets bullpen, they got them in droves," said Francesa.
Adding McNeil to the lineup would be a polarizing move. Though the lefty hitter has been a solid offensive asset over the last few seasons, he has a .216 average, five home runs, 21 RBI and a .585 OPS in 83 games this season.
McNeil has mostly played second base, but the Mets also have had him play a bit in the corner outfield as well.
Adding McNeil wouldn't be a total upgrade over Gleyber Torres, who has had his own struggles this season. The two would likely enter a platoon for the second half of the season.
If the Yankees thought McNeil could return to his career .352 on-base percentage, it might be worth it. Maybe he really does just need a change of scenery.
But it would certainly be a risky move considering his struggles through the first half of the season.
