The New York Yankees reportedly have some level of interest in a potential deal for Miami Marlins star Jazz Chisholm Jr. ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
According to Jon Heyman of The Post, the Yankees "have discussed" the possibility of acquiring Chisholm. Though Heyman notes the "extent of interest is unknown.
An All-Star in 2022 as a second baseman, Chisholm hasn't played at that level in the two seasons to follow. During that stellar campaign, he had a .860 OPS and 138 OPS+ in 60 games before a stress fracture in his back forced him to miss the entire second half of the season.
Making his return in 2023, Chisholm made the switch to centerfield in 2023. His versatility at both center and second base would certainly intrigue the Yankees. It would help fill a need in the infield while also giving the Yankees the flexibility to give Aaron Judge more half days at DH.
Chisholm has been roughly league-average with a 100 and 104 OPS+ in 2023 and 2024, respectively. He's 26 years old and is arbitration-eligible through the 2026 season.
In 89 games during the 2024 season, Chisholm is slashing .256/.325/.414 with 11 home runs, 41 RBI, 18 stolen bases and 32 walks.
As the July 30 deadline approaches, it appears Chisholm's name is one fans will need to monitor over the next few weeks.
