The Yankees made history Sunday.

New York set the record for most home runs in a calendar month after DJ LeMahieu blasted a solo shot off of Clayton Kershaw in the first inning at Dodger Stadium. It was the team's 59th homer of August.

The Yankees then became the only team ever in MLB to reach 60 homers in a month two innings later when Aaron Judge sent a curveball from Kershaw over the right-centerfield fence with two outs.

The Yankees improved to 85-47 with a 5-1 win over the Dodgers and their offense has been one of the best in baseball this season. Despite dealing with a slew of injuries, the team has a combined .272 batting average and 11 different players have hit 11 or more home runs — led by 32 from Gleyber Torres and 29 from Gary Sanchez.

The Yankees finished play Sunday tied with the Astros for the best record in the American League. They lead the Rays by nine games in the AL East.
