Former New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery didn't mince his words when discussing free agency talks last offseason.
Currently with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Montgomery was a star with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers — helping lead the latter to a World Series victory for the first time in franchise history.
Montgomery posted a 3.20 ERA with 166 strikeouts in 32 starts across 188.2 innings. He went 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA in the postseason with the Rangers.
The southpaw became a free agent last offseason as a client of the biggest agent in Major League Baseball — Scott Boras.
Though it seemed Montgomery was in line for a long-term deal, he settled for a one-year $25 million deal with a player option in 2025. He signed it two days before opening day.
"Obviously Boras kind of butchered it, so I'm just trying to move on from the offseason and try to forget it," Montgomery said via The Athletic.
Montgomery has a conditional player option for the 2025 season for $25 million if he reaches 23 starts, according to Spotrac, but the team moved him to the bullpen so he may not reach the full value of the deal. Because he reached at least 18 starts, the vested option is worth $22.5 million.
It hasn't been a fun season for Montgomery, who has a 6.44 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP in 95 innings this season, and he isn't holding back on his feelings about his former agent.
