New York Yankees legendary shortstop Derek Jeter knows all about going out on one's own terms, which makes his salute to radio broadcaster John Sterling even more heartwarming.
It was announced earlier this week that Sterling will retire from his everyday role as the team's radio broadcaster, a role that already had been reduced some for the 86-year-old.
Jeter, who announced his retirement before the 2014 season, posted a heartwarming salute to Sterling on social media before the latter's ceremony on Saturday.

Jeter made sure to take the time to give Sterling a nice send-off after the broadcaster's 35 years as the voice of the Yankees.
Congrats to John Sterling on an amazing career. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to and working with John for decades. He is a major part of Yankee history and will be greatly missed.
Jeter's statement is just one of many that have been made over the course of the week as the news made its rounds.
