The Yankees are taking the phrase "Hit 'em in bunches" to an absurd level this week.
The Bronx Bombers on Thursday established an MLB record for home runs in a series with their 17th, 18th and 19th against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. New York set the mark with No. 17 as it was going deep five times in the fourth inning of Game 3 of the set. The five in one inning also tied a major league record last reached by the Nationals in 2017.
Brett Gardner, DJ LeMahieu, Luke Voit, Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton all circled the bases in the frame against Toronto reliever Chase Anderson.
"Looking back, I’m going to have to look at some video to see if I was doing something where they could recognize what I was throwing," Anderson told reporters, per MLB.com. "Other than that, not a pleasurable inning to be a part of, for sure."
Gary Sanchez added No. 19 in the seventh inning to give the Yanks three consecutive games of six or more home runs, which is also a first.
"What a show," Sanchez told reporters through an interpreter, per MLB.com. “It’s been a while since we’ve felt that kind of energy. We went through a bad stretch; to find results, turn it around and … have the opportunity to give the fans a show, it feels good."
The Yankees held on for a 10-7 victory, their eighth win in a row after dropping eight of 10.
Last year's Yankees hit 16 homers in a series to match the 2019 Nats and the 1977 Red Sox, who did their damage against . . . the Yankees in June of that year. As hot as the Yankees are right now, maybe they can turn the tables against the last-place Red Sox this weekend at Fenway Park.

All those home runs meant tons of runs, of course. New York put up 43 on Toronto in the three games, including 20 on Tuesday and 13 on Wednesday.
New York leads the American League with 88 home runs in 50 games after overtaking the White Sox this week.
