Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman, who is still facing disciplinary actions stemming from domestic violence allegations, could miss spring training as part of his suspension, according to the New York Daily News.
Chapman was already facing a suspension for the beginning of the regular season when New York acquired him via trade from the Reds. But it now appears the Cuban pitcher could miss even more time.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is expected to make a ruling in the next couple of days. Chapman has said he will appeal any suspension.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, who has kept a hands-off approach throughout the suspension process, said he is uncertain whether a spring training ban for Chapman is a possibility.
"We support Major League Baseball and all their efforts," Cashman said. "We'll see where it goes. I have no idea what will happen."
If Chapman is forced to miss time, Andrew Miller will regain his closer's role.
