The national pastime is getting red carpet treatment this week. After months of jostling and deliberation, the World Series is upon us.
And as the Diamondbacks and Rangers duel for baseball supremacy, other powers are working too, hoping to use the event as a way to peddle that good ol' Americana.
The national anthem is ubiquitous across the American sports spectrum, and the Fall Classic is no exception. MLB is enlisting some of the biggest names in music to rattle off the "Star-Spangled Banner" before play begins.

Leading off for the musicians is H.E.R., who will christen the inaugural game of the 2023 World Series with her dulcet voice. The 26-year-old is a tour de force in the R&B industry, having blessed fans with such heaters as "Could've Been", "Every Kind of Way", "Focus" and a peach of a feature on Daniel Caesar's "Best Part." She's young in age but a wily veteran in terms of placements. And she's about as acclaimed as they come; H.E.R. already has 25 Grammy nominations and five Grammy wins thus far in her career.
In addition to her numerous studio accomplishments, H.E.R. also has a history performing during major sporting events. She did as much a couple years ago, offering her talents prior to Super Bowl 55 in 2021.

Taking the baton from H.E.R. in Game 2 is high schooler Pearle Peterson, the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth Talent Performer.
A Sequim, Washington, native, Peterson has spent much of the past year making the rounds across the Pacific Northwest and beyond while offering her services to various events, including Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Conference and North Lake Tahoe summer performing arts production of Footloose.
Game 3: Jordin Sparks
Is a multi-game collection of anthem singers without an "American Idol" alum even possible? Check back for the next series, as Jordin Sparks will get the mic before Game 3 in Arizona.
The Phoenix native and daughter of former NFL cornerback Phillippi Sparks won Season 6 of the reality show in 2007 when she was just 17 years old.
Game 4: Mickey Guyton
Mickey Guyton has been on this kind of stage before, getting the call for the anthem before Super Bowl 56 in Los Angeles.
While Sparks might have home-field advantage, Guyton was born in Arlington, Texas, home of the Rangers. She has said in the past that seeing LeAnn Rimes sing the anthem at a Rangers game inspired her to follow that path.
Once she committed, she tried to follow Sparks' lead on "American Idol" but didn't make it through the audition phase. No matter, she has found success on her own, earning Grammy nominations for Best Country Solo Performance (twice), Best Country Album and Best Country Song.
