Despite the Astros dropping the first two games of the World Series, Alex Bregman remains confident in his team.
Speaking at a news conference Thursday at Nationals Park, Bregman says all the team needs to do is "stop the bleeding."
"I think it takes one day to stop the bleeding," Bregman said. "You play good one game the bleeding stops. Panic stops. You start playing the way you want to play.
"We've just got to do a better job. And that's baseball. You go through stretches throughout the season where you don't swing the bat or pitch or play defense the way you want to play it."
Houston manager A.J. Hinch was asked if his club is shocked it has fallen behind 2-0 in the series.
"I don't think shock because we respect the Nats and what they bring," Hinch said. "And we faced (Max) Scherzer and (Stephen) Strasburg. We battled them pretty tough... So I think we're still optimistic.
"A week ago we lost Game 1 to the Yankees and they were going to sweep us. We have to bounce back in this ballpark similar to how we did at Yankee Stadium, and put pressure back on the Nats to have to try to close it out."
But for now, the team's focus is getting back in the series, and that starts with winning Game 3.
"That's the only thing we can focus on," Bregman said. "We can't focus on anything else. Whatever happened before, it's over with. All we've got to do is win Game 3."
The Nationals host the Astros in Game 3 of the World Series on Friday at 8:07 p.m. ET.
