CLEVELAND — Game 7 of the World Series was delayed by rain after nine innings.

The Cubs and Indians were tied 6-6 thanks to Rajai Davis' two-run homer off Aroldis Chapman in the eighth inning, but heavy rain started to fall after the bottom of the ninth and the tarp was pulled onto the field.

The rain delay lasted 17 minutes, from 11:58 p.m. ET to 12:15. The Cubs opened the 10th inning with a single by Kyle Schwarber.

Had the rain delay lasted long enough Wednesday night and it was determined play wouldn’t resume, the game would have been suspended and picked up Thursday.
