Wade Davis was dominating for the Royals this postseason.

He appeared in eight of Kansas City’s 11 playoff wins as the franchise picked up its first World Series title since 1985, and he didn’t allow a run in any of those eight games.

Three times, he was called on for more than a closer’s customary three outs. The right-hander recorded a six-out save in Game 4 of the ALDS, after the Royals took the lead with a dramatic eighth-inning rally against the Astros. He pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of Game 6 of the ALCS to pick up the series-clinching win against the Blue Jays. And his two-inning save closed down Kansas City’s Game 4 World Series win in New York.

In his 10 2/3 innings, Davis struck out 18, allowed just six hits and three walks. He had four saves in four opportunities. It’s a small sample size, sure, but opponents had just a .397 OPS against him in the playoffs.

He was dominating and the Royals are World Series champs. Those two statements are very much connected.
