Does this make him "Little Mac?"
The Cubs selected Mason McGwire in the eighth round of the 2022 MLB Draft on Monday, and if that name sounds familiar, it's because it is. Mason's dad, Mark McGwire, is one of baseball's all-time great sluggers.
Coincidentally, he also tormented the Cubs for 5 1/2 years as a member of the Cardinals. Now, the Cubs have a McGwire playing for them, which is a welcome change as opposed to crushing them at the plate.

Here's what you need to know about the latest McGwire who could be MLB-bound:
Who is Mason McGwire?
Mason McGwire, 18, is the son of former MLB single-season home run king Mark McGwire. There's a big difference between the two, though: Mason is a pitcher as opposed to the Goliath slugger his dad was.
The eighth-round pick out of Capistrano Valley High School is a long, right-handed pitcher who throws in the low 90s with a devastating splitter. His 6-3 frame also makes him a projectable starter at the next level.

The small catch with the drafted McGwire: He currently has a commitment to Oklahoma. Still, a top-10-round pick for the Cubs means they likely have the confidence that he'll sign as opposed to heading to college.
McGwire, 18, was born a few years after the end of his dad's major-league career. His brother Max currently plays for the Sooners.
He's one of several sons of former MLB players selected in the 2022 draft: Jackson Holliday, son of Matt Holliday, was taken with the No. 1 overall selection. Andruw Jones' son Druw Jones was taken at No. 2 overall, picked by the Orioles. Justin Crawford was also selected in the first round; he's the son of former MLB outfielder Carl Crawford.
