An absolute nightmare unfolded for Braves fans in Game 5 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday.
Or a miracle if you're a Cardinals fan.
From when Dexter Fowler walked to the moment Yadier Molina grounded out to end the inning, the Cardinals saw 10 runners cross the plate and take a 10-0 lead before Jack Flaherty even took the mound.
The first inning had a little bit of everything from an infield hit, to a dropped third strike to two high school rotation teammates facing off. But when it was all said and done, there was nothing but dejection from Braves fans at SunTrust Park in Atlanta.
It is truly difficult to put this inning into perspective so we went to Twitter to try to put a bow on this disaster of an inning for the Braves.

Bold move by the Braves to spot the Cardinals TEN RUNS in the first. Atlanta +1400; total 17.5 after a half-inning. #NLDS

Braves-Cardinals was the best DS series through the first four games. What the hell happened?

The largest deficit overcome to win a winner-take-all postseason game was 6 runs, by the Cardinals over the Nationals in the 2012 NLDS.

Just FYI.
(h/t @EliasSports)
It's the first time in LDS history a team has scored 10 in an inning (9 was also the most)

Teams to score 10+ runs are 9-0 entering today in winner-take-all postseason games.

Cardinals sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored 10 runs.

In Game 5 of a NLDS. That's just hard to fathom. I've never seen anything that bad in a playoff game.
At least the Braves gave themselves 9 innings to come back, right?

last team to do a number like this on atlanta was the union army

In the last decade, this is just the 5th time (regular or postseason) that a team has fallen behind by 9+ runs before batting. None of them have come back to win.
