The Minnesota Twins likely will be looking to add in the very near future.
There is just over one week to go until the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline and the Twins certainly are in contention for a playoff spot. Minnesota currently holds the No. 2 American League Wild Card spot and isn't far behind the New York Yankees for the top spot.
Minnesota looks like it's going to be a playoff team again but it still has holes that should be addressed ahead of the deadline. The starting rotation is an area that could use a boost and The Athletic's Aaron Gleeman and Tim Britton mentioned Minnesota as a possible option for Toronto Blue Jays veteran hurler Yusei Kikuchi.
"Yusei Kikuchi has been good rather than great in three seasons with the Blue Jays, putting together dominant stretches only to struggle for weeks at a time," Gleeman and Britton said. "Still, his high strikeout rate and demonstrated ability to pitch like an All-Star for stretches is likely enough to make him one of the most sought-after rental starters available.
"He would fit nicely in the No. 3 or No. 4 spot of most contending rotations, but might not appeal to every team as a reliable playoff rotation option against right-heavy lineups. Potential landing spots: Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins, (and) St. Louis Cardinals."
Kikuchi is 33 years old and has one All-Star nod under his belt. He hasn't been great this year and has a 4.54 ERA in 21 starts but still could shore up the back of the Twins' rotation and eat us some innings.
The Twins need another veteran and Kikuchi is available and likely won't cost too much.
