The Nationals called up top prospect Trea Turner from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday after placing first baseman/outfielder Tyler Moore on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced.

The speedy shortstop's contract was selected after Moore was diagnosed with a left ankle sprain. Additionally, right-hander Aaron Barrett was transferred to the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow sprain.

After being acquired from San Diego on June 14, Turner is slated to begin the first major league assignment of his career in Washington. He was the Padres’ first-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft and is considered one of the best shortstop prospects in baseball. MLB.com ranks Turner as the No. 12 prospect in baseball and No. 2 in the Nationals organization.

Turner, 22, has hit .322/.370/.458 with 39 extra-base hits and 29 stolen bases in 116 minor league games this season.

Moore, 28, is hitting .200 for Washington this season with 10 doubles, four home runs and 22 RBIs.
