Say this for newly arrived Tony Gwynn III: He's got big-league genes.

Proud father Tony Gwynn Jr. introduced "Trey," the grandson of late and much-loved Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Tony Jr., currently playing at Triple-A Syracuse, has played in all or parts of eight MLB seasons. His dad, who died last June, was known as "Mr. Padre" as he collected 3,141 hits in a 20-season career, all in San Diego. Chris Gwynn, Tony's brother and Junior's uncle, also played 10 seasons in the majors.

That has to give Trey a leg up, should he swing from the left side, on learning to hit it through that 5 1/2 hole like his granddad used to.
