Finally.

That's the word Tigers fans collectively said, in exasperated tones, when news came out that the team had designated struggling relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain for assignment.

Chamberlain has a decent 4.09 ERA, but has served up six runs in his last three innings of work. Detroit also designated Tom Gorzelanny for assignment as they continue to shake up their bullpen. Drew VerHagen and Jeff Ferrell have been called up from Triple-A Toledo to take their place.

The Tigers also activated catcher Alex Avila from the disabled list and sent Bryan Holaday to Triple-A Toledo.

After missing nearly two months of action with a left knee issue, Avila returns to a .200/.342/.317 batting line with two homers across 22 games this season.
