The Detroit Tigers have talked to hitting coach Lloyd McClendon about their vacant managerial position, MLive.com reports.
"All I can tell you is I interviewed for the job," McClendon said. "The process went well and I'm just waiting for the process to end."
McClendon, 54, has been the Tigers' hitting coach since 2007. The former major league OF/1B was manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2001 to 2005, leading the Bucs to a 336-446 record in that time.
"He is thought to be the frontrunner to become the next manager of the Tigers by many, but the field of candidates could be a wide one," according to MLive.com.
Detroit is looking to replace Jim Leyland, who announced his retirement on Monday.
