As if 2016 wasn't already weird enough, here's a late-night Twitter beef between a professional baseball team and the answer to the bar trivia question "Which band released the triple-platinum album 'Astro Lounge' in 1999?" I realize that's a lot to handle, so let's start from the beginning.

San Francisco Chronicle baseball writer John Shea sent out an innocent tweet Friday evening explaining how far Coco Crisp had come from sitting on the bench for the Athletics to driving in the game-winning run in Game 3 of the World Series for the Indians. Hey, that's fine. Just an observation.

The problems started when the band Smash Mouth felt the need to use Shea's note as a way to attack the A's.

So... Oakland responded.

Then it went off the rails.

A's pitcher Sean Doolittle tried to jump in and calm everyone down with some Smash Mouth puns. It. Did. Not. Work.

Smash Mouth extended an olive branch to the A's, but the band would have been better off walking on the sun.

Sorry you had to see this, Sean.
