The Royals are desperately chasing an American League wild-card spot, but they might have to do it without star outfielder Lorenzo Cain.
Cain returned to the lineup Friday after missing seven games with a wrist injury. Despite returning, Cain was in discomfort when swinging the bat and now may miss the rest of the season.

Just talked w/Lorenzo Cain. Considering shutting it down for the year. Says that's highly likely. Was basically swinging w/1 arm last night

Cain, who is slashing .287/.339/.408 with nine home runs and 56 RBIs in 103 games this year, was not in the starting lineup for Saturday night’s game against the White Sox.
It's unclear whether coming back too soon caused more damage. Cain also missed a month of action in July with a hamstring injury.
The Royals entered Saturday four games behind the Tigers and Orioles for the final wild-card spot.
