The Cleveland-to-Toronto pipeline is alive and well.

The Blue Jays have named Indians vice president of player personnel Ross Atkins as their new general manager, the team announced Thursday.

Atkins will work under new Blue Jays CEO Mark Shapiro, who spent more than two decades in the Cleveland front office before moving to Toronto this year.

The other reported finalist for the job, longtime Blue Jays front office fixture Tony LaCava (who once spent a year working for Shapiro in Cleveland), will remain with the organization. He will serve as senior vice president of baseball operations and assistant GM, the team said.

LaCava served as interim GM after the surprise departure of Alex Anthopoulos and reportedly agreed to a contract extension last month that would keep him with the Jays regardless of his role.

Atkins, 42, joined the Indians' front office after spending five years as a pitcher in Cleveland's farm system. He had various roles in player development for the organization, including a three-year stint overseeing Latin American operations.
