The Rockies have decided to give German Marquez a new deal.

Colorado and the right-handed pitcher agreed on a five-year, $43 million extension, according to a report from The Athletic, which cites unidentified league sources.

The contract includes a $1 million bonus if Marquez is traded. There are also incentives based on where he finishes in the Cy Young race.

Marquez, 24, has already shown promise in his young MLB career. He recorded a career-high 14 wins in 2018, striking out 230 batters while posting a 3.77 ERA.

He has only one start this season and struck out seven batters in six innings during the Rockies' 6-1 victory over the Marlins in late March.

Colorado finished second in the National League West standings last season, just one game back of the Dodgers. The Rockies were swept by the Brewers in the National League Division Series.

Committing to Marquez's continued growth could be key to the Rockies' success this season. He is entering his fourth year with the team.
