Rockies decline option on Justin Morneau image

The Rockies have declined to pick up a $9 million mutual option on first baseman Justin Morneau's contract.

The team made the announcement Thursday. The Rockies bought out Morneau's contract for $750,000, according to The Associated Press.

Morneau spent two seasons with the Rockies, posting a slash line of .310/.363/.458 this year in just 49 games while dealing with the effects of a severe concussion. Morneau won the 2014 batting title with a .319 average. 

Morneau, who spent more than 10 of his 13 MLB seasons with the Twins, is a four-time All-Star and was the 2006 American League MVP. He has a career line of .282/.349/.483 with 241 home runs and 960 RBIs.
