Two of baseball’s oldest and most respected teams will play in one of the oldest parks in the United States on June 20. The San Fransisco Giants play the St. Louis Cardinals at Alabama’s Rickwood Field. The game will air on FOX.
Rickwood Field was built in 1910 and was the home of the Birmingham Barons of the Negro League. The team played there from 1910–1961 and once had Willie Mays on its roster. The ballpark also hosted several MLB legends, including Hank Aaron, Joe DiMaggio, Ernie Banks, Satchel Paige, Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, and more.
The game will be the day after Juneteenth. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Rickwood Field has gone through some renovations to modernize it for fans and players. Members of the Barons still play on the field as part of the Rickwood Classic.

The Giants, who Mays played for and won a World Series with, play the Cardinals. The latter team also shares a history with the Barons, as William Greason became the first African American pitcher to take the mound for the Cardinals after signing with the team in 1954.
