Rays rookie Richie Shaffer debuts with homer, celebrates alone image

For MLB rookies, getting the silent treatment after your first career home run is a tradition. But when Rays rookie Richie Shaffer went yard in his major league debut Aug. 4, he didn't let tradition keep him from celebrating.

Shaffer hit a solo shot off Daniel Webb in the seventh inning of Tampa Bay's 11-3 win over the White Sox in Chicago. He was one of four Rays to homer in the game, and his blast made the score 10-1.

When he got to the dugout, his teammates huddled together and ignored him. Shaffer just pretended as if they were there anyway, high-fiving and hugging the air.

Stay positive, Richie; it will treat you well.
