Dodgers left hander Rich Hill left Thursday night's win against the Orioles in the first inning after injuring his knee.
The 39-year-old veteran is scheduled to be re-evaluated Friday, but his status for the rest of the regular season and postseason is unknown.
Hill, who had been sidelined since June 19 by a strained left forearm, struggled with his control, walking two and hitting two batters before exiting with two outs after 27 pitches. On the eighth pitch, Hill sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, but he tried to pitch through the injury. He sprained the same ligament in spring training.
"After the last curveball on the second hitter there, I felt my knee and then I stupidly tried to pitch through it," Hill told reporters. "I worked hard to get back and felt great."
“Having that happen tonight is just really disappointing,” Hill added.
Hill is 4-1 with a 2.68 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 11 starts this season. If he had been able to regain his early season form, the Dodgers had planned to use him as a fourth starter in the National League division series. If Hill doesn't return, rookie right hander Tony Gonsolin may get the nod.
