SN readers: Edgar Martinez, Pete Rose deserve to have their numbers retired image

What are you waiting for Mariners? The people have spoken, and they think Seattle should retire Edgar Martinez's No. 11.

Also, a vast majority of voters in SN's retired numbers poll believe the Reds should retire Pete Rose's No. 14. We're sure that wouldn't prove at all controversial.

For the past week, we asked readers to vote on whether 19 former players (including Mike Piazza twice) should have their jerseys honored. Here's what you decided:

— Using the Hall of Fame cutoff of 75 percent, three players were deemed worthy of the honor: Martinez, Rose and Ivan Rodriguez (Rangers).

— Seven other players received more than 50 percent of votes cast: Larry Walker (Rockies), Alan Trammell (Tigers), Wade Boggs (Red Sox), Barry Bonds (Giants), Piazza (Mets), Bernie Williams (Yankees) and Lou Whitaker (Tigers).

Here are the full results:

Edgar Martinez, Mariners-81 percent
