The hits just keep coming for the Boston Red Sox, as they have another key player who will be missing time with an injury.
During his interview with WEEI, Red Sox manager Alex Cora stated that rookie outfielder Wilyer Abreu will hit the injured list with an ankle sprain and is expected to see a specialist.
Abreu injured his ankle in the series against the Detroit Tigers when he slipped walking down the steps of the dugout.
The 24-year-old has been a candidate for American League Rookie of the Year this season, posting a .272 batting average and an .829 OPS with six home runs, 22 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 53 games.
According to MassLive's Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox are recalling Tyler Heineman from Triple-A Worcester. Heineman appeared in one game for Boston earlier in the year, reaching base on a hit-by-pitch in one of his two plate appearances.
