The Boston Red Sox took another hit on Saturday, as outfielder Tyler O'Neill was removed late from the team's game against the Milwaukee Brewers and replaced by Rob Refsnyder.
Boston announced later that O'Neill's removal was due to right knee soreness, but it was unclear when it occurred.
After the game, O'Neill spoke to the media and clarified what was going on.
“I’ve been grinding through it for a little bit," O'Neill said (via. Christopher Smith). Felt it more so on that last swing that I took kind of coming out of the box. Feel like my cleat got caught or something in the batter’s box there. So it didn’t feel too good."
Red Sox manager Alex Cora called him "day-to-day" in his post-game media availability.
If O'Neill gets some time off, Refsnyder and Ceddanne Rafaela would likely get more time in the outfield. O'Neill's spot as Boston's designated hitter could be filled by Refsnyder, Garrett Cooper (when healthy), Dominic Smith or Romy Gonzalez. It could also be used as a spot to get someone some rest.
