The Boston Red Sox have had some terrible injury luck to start their 2024 campaign, and everyone around the organization right now is hoping that it didn't just get much worse.
In the first inning of Boston's Saturday game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, first baseman Triston Casas was removed from the contest after drawing a walk in his first at-bat against Pirates hurler Mitch Keller. Casas stayed on the field until the end of the half-inning, but he didn't come back out for the other half.
It's unclear exactly what the issue is with Casas, but the team has moved Bobby Dalbec to first base, and Pablo Reyes has entered the game to play third.
Casas had been hitting .244 with an .850 OPS in his first 21 games of the season.
If the Red Sox were to lose their first baseman for any significant time, it would be another huge loss that they don't have the talent to overcome.
