On a day that should've been all about celebrating the 2004 World Series championship team and the life of Tim and Stacy Wakefield, things couldn't have gone much worse for the Boston Red Sox.

Not only did the Red Sox lose their home opener 7-1, but before the game, they announced that starting pitcher Nick Pivetta was being placed on the 15-day injured list and shortstop Trevor Story, who was placed on the 10-day injured list already, was going to have season-ending shoulder surgery.

After the loss, Story spoke to the media about the injury and the surgery, and he was so emotional that he could barely get his words out.

This is so sad. It's clear that not being able to be out there with his teammates is eating him up, especially as a leader in the clubhouse.

With three years left on his contract after 2024, hopefully, Story can just get back to playing baseball like he so desperately wants.
