With less than a week to go before the MLB trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox needed to add to help bolster their roster for a postseason push.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, they've done just that, acquiring left-handed starter James Paxton from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Paxton, 35, spent two seasons with Boston in 2022 and 2023, posting a 4.50 ERA and a 1.313 WHIP in 19 starts. This season, he's recorded a 4.43 ERA and a 1.455 WHIP in 18 starts for Los Angeles.
The Red Sox desperately needed reinforcements in the rotation, and adding a familiar lefty should help down the stretch.
UPDATE: In return, the Red Sox have sent 17-year-old infield prospect Moises Bolivar to the Dodgers. He's appeared in 31 games in the Dominican Summer League, hitting .270 with a .787 OPS, three home runs, 19 RBIs and a stolen base.
