The Boston Red Sox have 22 games before the MLB trade deadline, and they'll need to decide whether they're buyers, sellers or just standing pat.
If Boston continues playing the impressive brand of baseball that they have over the last few weeks, they should be prime position to buy, and there are plenty of guys who could help them make a run.
Los Angeles Angels pitcher Reid Detmers is a player the Red Sox should be interested in adding.
The Angels drafted Detmers in the first round of the 2020 MLB draft out of Lousiville, and he made his debut after just 14 games in Los Angeles' system.
It didn't take him long to get acclimated, as he threw a no-hitter in just his 11th major league start against the Tampa Bay Rays.
This year, the 24-year-old has struggled, posting a 6.14 ERA and a 1.476 WHIP in his 12 starts, leading to a demotion to Triple-A Salt Lake at the start of June.
While Detmers hasn't been much better in his five starts in Triple-A (5.70 ERA and a 1.367 WHIP), he could be an interesting buy-low candidate for Boston.
Getting Detmers in a trade won't be nearly as costly as it would've been before the year, and he could see a resurgence in Boston once he's paired with pitching coach Andrew Bailey, who has helped a number of the Red Sox arms this year.
