After the New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, Boston completed a trade with an AL Central team.
The team announced Saturday night they've acquired Detroit Tigers right-handed pitcher Trey Wingenter in exchange for right-handed pitcher CJ Weins.
Wingenter, 30, made his MLB debut in 2018 for the San Diego Padres. He's appeared in 90 games in the big leagues and has posted a 5.28 ERA and 1.253 WHIP. Pitching for Detroit's Triple-A affiliate in Toledo this season, Wingenter has recorded a 3.31 ERA and a 1.469 WHIP in 26 outings.
Weins, 23, was Boston's sixth-round pick in 2023. In 19 appearances for Low-A Salem, he's posted a 4.81 ERA and a 1.438 WHIP.
