The Boston Red Sox are set to take on the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night at Fenway Park, but before the game, they made a few roster moves.
Boston announced that they'd recalled infielder/outfielder Jamie Westbrook from Triple-A and selected right-handed pitcher Trey Wingenter to the active roster.
Westbrook made his MLB debut with the Red Sox earlier this year and hit .222 with a .749 OPS, one home run and four RBIs in 11 games.
Wingenter was recently acquired in a trade with the Detroit Tigers for Triple-A pitcher CJ Weins. He's only appeared in games for Triple-A Toledo this season, but he's posted a 3.31 ERA and a 1.469 WHIP in 26 games.
To make room for both on the roster, Boston designated right-handed pitcher Naoyuki Uwasawa for assignment and optioned infielder Enmanuel Valdez to Triple-A Worcester.
Uwasawa appeared in two games for Boston earlier this year, allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks over four innings. He struggled in Triple-A, posting a 6.54 ERA and a 1.641 WHIP over 13 appearances.
Valdez has hit .226 with a .684 OPS in 56 games this season, they may be looking for some help against lefties with three coming up.
