The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays faced off against each other at Tropicana Field once again on Wednesday night with Alex Cora's squad earning an 8-5 win.
Boston's starter Brayan Bello was far from perfect, as he allowed three runs in the second inning and four walks in his full six-inning outing.
Luckily the Red Sox offense exploded in the fifth for five runs with Connor Wong (1-for-5) driving in two runs and Ceddanne Rafaela (1-for-4), Rob Refsnyder (2-for-4) and Dominic Smith (1-for-3) bringing in one each.
Then, in the next frame, Boston scored another three runs due to Jarren Duran's (1-for-5) RBI double and a two-run Wilyer Abreu (2-for-4) home run.
After Bello left in the seventh, Cam Booser struggled, allowing a walk, hit and a run in his 1/3 of an inning. Greg Weissert pitched a clean 2/3 of an inning, but Zack Kelly allowed a home run in his second inning of work.
This Red Sox victory pushed their winning streak to four games and completed a three-game sweep at Tropicana Field - that's the first time the team has accomplished that feat since April 2019.
Boston's overall record improved to 26-24 and 16-11 on the road. They're also now 1.5 games above Tampa Bay for third place in the division.
With this series coming to a close, the Red Sox return to Boston, have a day off on Thursday and then host the Milwaukee Brewers for a three-game series starting on Friday.
