Hours before the Boston Red Sox's Friday night matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, Alex Cora's team released a lineup that included just one change - swapping Connor Wong for Reese McGuire at catcher.
However, since then, the team released an updated lineup that has Bobby Dalbec playing third base in place of Rafael Devers, who has been removed due to left shoulder soreness.
Here's the team's new lineup for Friday:
- LF Jarren Duran
- RF Tyler O’Neill
- DH Masataka Yoshida
- SS Trevor Story
- 1B Triston Casas
- CF Ceddanne Rafaela
- 2B Enmanuel Valdez
- 3B Bobby Dalbec
- C Reese McGuire
Devers went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs on Opening Day, helping Boston earn the 6-4 win over Seattle.
In 2023, Dalbec appeared in just 21 games for the major league club, hitting .204 with one home run. He hit .269 with a .938 OPS in his 114 games with the team's Triple-A affiliate in Worcester.
This is an unfortunate turn at the start of the Red Sox's 2024 campaign, as they were already expected to struggle. Hopefully, this is just a minor bump and Devers returns to action in short order.
