Boston Red Sox third base Rafael Devers is in the middle of arguably the greatest season of his career, as he's hitting .284 with a career-high .930 OPS, 14 home runs and 38 RBIs.
He's been a big reason why the team has been able to stay afloat despite injuries, and even with him missing time, he's bounced back in a big way.
The way Devers is playing has former MLB All-Stars comparing him to Hall of Famers.
"This guy is a superstar player, making adjustments, and this year, it's been obvious that he's really taking that Fenway approach and taking it on the road with him," former MLB outfielder Chris Young said on "MLB Tonight" recently. "Every time he's driving the ball right now, it seems like it's a conscious effort to use that wall to his favor, be very comfortable, allowing the ball to get deep, driving the ball the other way out the yard...
"The only other player that I saw that was able to take advantage of this was David Ortiz. In his MVP-caliber season that I played with him in his final year, he was really guiding his ball, driving his ball the other way, using the wall to his advantage and absolutely crushing the ball the other way. Rafael Devers is following that same path right now."
This is a comparison that the Red Sox and Devers have to be thrilled with.
Throughout Ortiz's career, he drove the ball with consistency and used the wall for easy doubles and rocket singles. If Devers can keep up his current pace, he'll finish with the best numbers of his career and potentially help the Red Sox make a surprise postseason push.
