On Monday, the Boston Red Sox completed their third trade in the last week, acquiring Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Quinn Priester for infield prospect Nick Yorke.

This trade was a bit different than the first two, as Priester is just 23 years old and has plenty of term left on his deal. This was a move that the Red Sox will hopefully help in the future.

After the trade was completed, three separate writers from The Athletic graded the move well.

Chad Jennings gave the Red Sox a B+ and the Pirates a B-. Sam Blum gave Boston a B- and Pittsburgh an A-. Stephen Nesbitt gave both teams a B+.

Those all feel about right for this one. Boston moves on from an infield prospect who may not have had a long-term spot, and they get a young arm that they're in desperate need of.

Now, they're just hoping that Priester can get back to performing as he did in Triple-A (3.81 ERA, 1.272 WHIP and a 9.7 K/9 in 31 appearances). Working with Red Sox pitching coach Andrew Bailey, who has been credited for helping Boston's pitchers in 2024, could be just the thing.
