The Boston Red Sox string of poor injury luck continued on Wednesday, as they placed starting pitcher Garrett Whitlock on the injured list after leaving Tuesday's game with an oblique injury.
Whitlock is the second Boston starter to hit the injured list since the season started, with Nick Pivetta preparing to return soon.
In 18 1/3 innings pitched over four games, Whitlock has posted a 1.96 ERA, a 1.145 WHIP and an 8.3 K/9.
To fill his roster spot, the Red Sox recalled lefty Joe Jacques from Worcester.
Jacques, 29, appeared in 23 games for Boston last year, posting a 5.06 ERA and 1.575 WHIP over 26 2/3 innings. He has a 15.75 ERA in four appearances in Triple-A this year.
